Hi and welcome.
My name is Kim Manley Ort, a contemplative photographer and writer from Niagara, Ontario, Canada. I’ve been writing and facilitating workshops on seeing since 2010. I’m also an avid reader, walker, music lover, and traveller.
What is Seeing Clearly about?
“The meaning of life is to see.” ~ Huineng
I take that quote to heart. Many of the skills required to see and make a great photograph also apply to seeing in life. It’s all about the quality of attention.
While we’ll never see everything clearly, I firmly believe that we can cultivate skills in seeing more clearly, right where we are, and have deeper and more meaningful experiences and relationships. Through reflections and practices, I offer ways to deepen your quality of attention and notice how your own judgments and preconceptions can get in the way.
In 2021, I wrote weekly about the way body and mind have to work together to see clearly. We learned to see in terms of relationships. In 2022, we took what we learned and applied it to the places where we live, with the goal of being better and more effective inhabitants and citizens of the land. Since then, I’ve been writing longer form essays, consolidating much of my writing over the past dozen years into major themes. It’s free! Billing is currently paused.
