I’ve been going through pictures and blog posts this week - a lot of sharing of writing and photos. Recently, I’ve become more comfortable with my quietness a d desire for solitude. It’s what allows me time to read and write, think and be. All of my work comes from this place and also what I bring to relationships. All this to say to embrace your eccentricities. They have something to tell you.
This week, I read a story about one of my favourite musicians, Brandi Carlile, who does just this. She was marginalized socioeconomically and with her sexual preference. She never won a music competition that she entered. Yet, her gifts are real and she sees herself very clearly.
This week's invitation will be one I keep coming back to. I have "Notice what makes your heart leap" on a post-it on my desk. I appreciate how your reflections, questions and practice suggestions all nudge me to elevating my view of my interior world to one of 'inner artist.
I'm not ready to share a response to the practice yet, but wanted to post my gratitude, especially for connecting "Pause, Focus, Connect" with Fox's 4 steps to inner unfolding.
I am sorry to say I am just reading this now Kim. It really speaks to me, something I need to reread several times. I was helping a family in crisis this week, a baby. Parents unmarried, Still no easy answers!! I was a social worker for 32 years.
All your questions, reflections, and observations seem to helps me look at things with fresh eyes. This make me think and feel deeply, with much self reflection and inquiry about everything! I feel overwhelmed in a GOOD WAY. Your writing has a very powerful message about the inner artist that I know others connect with it in many unique ways It is a very well written message that speaks to my heart. I am not sure where to go with it now, I lack direction. This is a great article to begin this section with now. I am really clueless about my inner artist, gift, and differences I can make in the world. I love to ask myself and others questions. I am also very curious. I did not grow up that way. I love what you share about yourself bringing a sense of curiosity and inspiration into a room. I see that VERY clearly in you. I would love talking with YOU, and a great listener. You want to make a difference in the world, and I so admire that. You are doing something to make a difference that reaches many people!!!!! don't know of any gifts I have, I will think more about it. I feel I went through without much direction in life, now I am older, much more difficult to realize any gifts now!! I was so busy with family and responsibilities.I did not have time for hobbies and passions. My kids came first and I loved being a parent. I honestly don't have that many contacts or friends now. I feel isolated, lonely, don't see what gifts I can discover at this point in my life. I feel it is too late. Too few years left, not the energy. I primarily exercise, with the Covid and being unable to go out, I became more involved with the Feldenkrais Method. I tried sharing this with friends and family. I feel I am a generous person, my brother says that. about me. I don't really feel very generous. I don't feel too much of anything right now. Maybe this will change, but I don't feel that hopeful. I will reread your wonderful writing and reflect deeper. Thank you VERY MUCH FOR WRITING THIS WONDERFUL ARTICLE, links, and ALL your INSPIRATIONAL Emails. They are beautifully written with much reflection and inquiry! THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME!!!! I love ALL of what you write. You are an excellent writer!! Thank you from my heart for sharing and caring!!!! You inspire many people, and are very much appreciated!!! WITH MUCH GRATITUDE!!!
Dear Sharana, thank you for the honesty and gratitude you bring to this space. These are gifts I see in you. I also see curiosity in you and am not surprised that others see you as generous. You were a social worker for 32 years and raised a family! Whether planned or not, you’ve probably made a difference in many lives that you may never know about. And just this week, you were helping a family in crisis. I hope you can see that you’ve been sharing your gifts all along.
That being said, your feelings are real and probably ones many can relate to right now. This week’s email on emotions may provide some guidance. Feel those emotions and take care of yourself this week in any way you can. And thank you, as always, for your kind words.
Thank you Kim, I truly mean what I say about what I have learned from your classes. I was sorting through notebooks and papers. I discarded many photography notebooks I made, but kept ALL of yours. I made copies of all the classes and assignments from your classes. Unbelievable the information, learnings, and stimulation in your classes and writings! I appreciate your honesty, wisdom, different POVs. Thanks for your comments, about the gifts and difference! Gratitude is huge for me, you are SO correct!! I complete all the surveys sent my way, always thanking others. I figure many people do NOT take the time to do surveys, and the staff have difficult jobs in many ways. One customer service rep told me the surveys do make a difference. I always think how I can help others when I visit, making their job easier, and complimenting them. The shadow part of this gratitude/generosity is especially noticeable with my kids when they don't express gratitude as I expect. It should come naturally . I become very judgmental and hurt, then angry!! I noticed something in an online group. It was a new church group. I had no expectations being new. There were problems with zoom. One person thought it as a disaster. From her POV it was a disaster. But I was seeing everything new, being my first time. Thus no judgement or expectations. It was a wonderful group for myself!! I am going to try to have this openness and acceptance without the judgement and expectations with situations where I get stuck. Then I will feel more connections, I hope! THANKS FOR YOUR WORDS OF WISDOM AND INSIGHT!!
